In many dimensions of life there is no honest answer to that question.
Some variables are too large and do not answer to you.
In the domain of your practice vision and the goals you have set for yourself, you do have a margin of control. Particularly in how you decide to show up and in the habits you keep. That margin is smaller than we wish it were and larger than we think it is.
You hold a vision for the practice you are building: the full caseload, the rate you have set, the schedule that fits your life, the clients you are here to serve. That vision is the destination. The one-year target is that destination brought close enough to aim at this year. The quarter is the year cut down to a span that we can execute within.
Begin with the end in mind, then walk it backward until it lands on something you can do on day one of the quarter (which is tomorrow by the way).
It is an easy mistake to measure a quarter only by what it produced. Outcomes are important. But you hold less sway over an outcome than over a process. You have far more control over the habits than over the results they tend to produce, which is why most of your quarter belongs there.
A quarter is the right size for this, and this quarter is the right one. Twelve weeks is long enough to build something real and short enough that the variables cannot drift off course and wreck the plan. And Q3 represents open road. Come the fourth quarter, the holidays and family obligations will come for your calendar. Be prepared. Think of winter in the summer. This is the time to execute.
The next genuinely open run of weeks, the stretch where you can make real, intentional progress on the goals that matter most, is the one starting Wednesday. Spend it like it is the one that counts, because it is.
This is what the AIR call is built for. A vision is only as good as your consistency with the small things underneath it, and consistency is hard to hold alone across twelve weeks. The weekly call is the scaffolding that keeps the work visible and consistent. You come every Wednesday. The week’s actions get tied back to your vision. The intentionality keeps the effort pointed at something that matters to you. You report what actually happened. The reporting lets you witness yourself in action and adjust. “That which is measured improves. That which is measured and reported improves exponentially.”
Process goals are where your control lives. The AIR call is what keeps you consistent, visible, and accountable to those process goals week after week.
That is the whole recipe. Show up, name the habit, do the habit, report back, and do it again next Wednesday. Twelve weeks of that does more than a year of good intentions ever will.
Twelve weeks from Wednesday, the same cohorts gather again to celebrate what moved. Sit with that image for a second. Picture yourself in that room with something specific to share, something you can trace straight back to a habit you chose to keep when the quarter was new. Start there, and build the quarter backward.
Bring your draft to the AIR call on Wednesday. Let’s get to work.
